Get Ready for Summer

We are heading into SUMMER...time to reset! Let's recap the importance of practicing and building our own resilience.

The science on resilience confirms a concept that’s been at the heart of spiritual and philosophical traditions. Philosophers have been consistently telling us, while we can’t control what happens in the external world, we do have control over our inner world and how we respond.

“When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves . . . Everything can be taken from a human but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.” - Viktor E. Frankl

The power to build resilience is within us. Practicing resilience skills we can teach ourselves to be more resilient. Science has confirmed everyday ways to nurture our resilience:

  • sleep

  • unplug

  • express gratitude

  • be socially connected

  • belief in something larger than ourselves

When we practice these simple ways to build resilience, we'll have the energy and insight to choose our attitudes based on our values of being our best self.

Let's devote effort to our resilience practices as we explore this summer. At times, we may feel a little uncomfortable. Like riding a Ferris Wheel, there are parts of the ride we enjoy and there may be parts where we feel a bit of fear, but we can still feel the thrill of the experience!

Go all in this summer on building your resilience to ride the ride of uncertainty and feel the thrill of being alive.

"Success comes from knowing that you did your best to become the best that you are capable of being." – John Wooden
